Like most 3 year old boys, he feels invincible, especially on a vehicle, and this was all the result of a 3 way trike to bike to car (little kett-car) accident.
Happens on a Wednesday and he bounces back with a little black eye like it really is nothing. Next day, he plays all day, not a care, face looks fine and then.......It's like 5-6 at night and he and three friends are out on the trampoline. Next thing you know, everyone is running inside saying 'OMG, you should see D's face', along with a consistent story of how nothing happened on the trampoline to cause it.
Wow, balloon it did. The eye still a little black around the edges, but the face itself (from cheek to chin) flippin huge. A lopsided blowfish and then some. Funny part is, he still didn't really care, opened his mouth and smiled and said it didn't hurt. Out came the ice pack and the children's motrin, along with the phone call to the doctor the next morning to express concern and describe the multiple colors beginning to emerge as a lovely batarang pattern on his whole left side. Nothing to do about it really. Watch the colors change, look for any lack of improvement, hope he doesn't whack his face again.
And a week (12 days now) pass. He no longer looks like a chipmunk, but there is still a lump in his cheekbone (pretty sure he fractured it), his eye still has a black ring and the rest of his cheek is still a pale, bile-like color. I can't believe how long it has lasted, and I can't even describe the colors we have seen in the week since the accident. Perhaps the pictures will speak to this a bit.
And we prep for the next injury, as he moves from this scarring, not a care in the world, continuing along the path of the young and the reckless.
